Step 1 Lead-in

1.Ask the students the following questions :

1) Do you know that Premier Li made an inspection tour in Nan Tong last week?

2) Do you know that an 85-year-old woman learnt to parachute(跳伞) in Dubai(迪拜) ?

3) Everyday there is something, big or small, going on around us or around the world. Where can you get the news?

Step 2 Structures of a newspaper

Ask the students to take out 21st Century Teens Juniors and have an answer race.

1.Can you tell me how many columns there are in Teens Juniors? What are they?

2.Where can you find these columns?

3. Please look at each column, and tell us what is in each column?

5.What is your favourite column?

6. How do you choose the article you like to read in each column?

Step 3 Function of the titles in the newspaper

Encourage the students to go through all the titles and try to answer the questions below:

2.Why are phrases commonly used in the newspaper?

3. Read these titles. What is special about them? (Museum makes “art for the ears”,Jin Yong passes away, Westlife makes their big return)

4.Why are present tenses commonly used in the title?

5. What’s special about this title? (No more trick-or-treating?)

6.What’s t the function of this title?
