Step1 leading in
present some pictures about children living in mountain areas, talk about them with students, present new words”north-west “ ,”south-west”
help students to think about the question: what can we do to help those students?
Tell them : I can be a volunteer teacher to teach in schools in mountain areas. Now our government has many policies to encourage college students to support the development of North-west China---volunteer project

Step2 while-listening
Read the background for the students, help students read the questions in A1, make sure they know what the listening task is.
Present the questions on the screen, play the tape for the first time, students listen and do the task.
After the first listening, they will find the questions can be put in order according to the listening material.
Play again and check the answers together.
Present : a training plan keep in touch talk on the phone
Keep talking about the volunteer project, ask students: what’s the school like there? What will Judy do at the school?
Present the task A2 on the screen ,teach them some listening tips: prediction and using short forms
Play the tape twice for students to listen, then check the answers together.
Step 3 report about listening
Help students to talk about what they have known from listening, if necessary make a conclusion for them.
Present Peter’s diary ,ask students to finish it.
Check the answers by asking four students to read each paragraph. Tell them the main idea about each paragraph: introduction about Judy; school there; Judy’s work; Judy’s feeling
Underline some useful sentences
Students practise reading for 2 minutes then read together.
Step4 Speak up
College students like Judy can be volunteer teachers to help students in poor areas. Ask them: As a middle school student, how can you help people in your daily life?
