Step 1 Lead-in ( Speak up )

1. Play a video

T: Yesterday, some students in our class talked about what they could do to help people in our daily lives. Let’s watch the short video. After watching it, fill a chart.

2. Pairwork

Ask students to think about who else needs help. Then ask them to choose the ones they want to help and make a conversation with their partners.

Step 2 Pre-listening

Show some pictures about children in poor areas. Ask students to think about their lives and needs. Then lead to the necessarily of volunteer teachers.

Step 3 While-listening Part A1&Part A2

Part A1

Before listening, ask students some tips for listening, such as looking through the questions and options carefully and having a guess, etc.

(1) Get the students to look through the questions and options.

(2) Play the tape of Part A1 and check the answers.

(3) Group discussion: How to be a volunteer teacher like Judy?

Part A2

T: Peter wants to know more details about Judy’s volunteer experience. Can you predict what Judy will say? Here is another listening tip for you: Try to predict some missing words before listening.
