Step1. Lead-in
1. To enjoy a song “We are the word” to lead to the topic of charities.
2. To review some international charities(WWF,UNICEF,Oxfam,
ORBIS)
3. To give a brief talk about ORBIS—ORBIS mainly helps those people who are blind or have eye problems. Let students take a close look at the logo.
a. What does the logo look like?
b. Why does this charity use an eye as its logo ?
c. Why is there a plane in the logo?
Step2. Pre-reading
To ask students to work in groups to make a prediction and then make a report.“If you are the interviewer, what questions would you like to ask ?”For example“What do you do in ORBIS, doctor?”ask students to work in groups and discuss with their partners. Then each group should choose one student to ask 1-2 questions.Then let students read this interview to check if they think the same as the interviewer and find answers to their questions.
Step3. While-reading
1. To skim the text and understand the structure of the interview.
2. Let students find out how many questions there are in the interview and divide this interview into 4 parts. Ask students to look through the interview and match the main idea of each part.
3. To scan the text from part1 to part4.Ask students to scan the interview in different ways,such as reading,asking and answering,listening.
Step4. Post-reading
1. To sum up the passage of ORBIS.
2. To have a discussion on how to support the ORBIS with the song play.
a. Introduce ORBIS to more people.
b. Tell people that it is important to take good care of eyes.
c. Donate more money to ORBIS .
