To cultivate the students’ awareness of environmental protection.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warming up
Show pictures to students while talking with them.
Teacher: It’s a beautiful forest! Here you can see beautiful trees were cut down? What will it cause? Cutting down trees will cause serious floods!
Did you know that all around the world, 3 to 6 billion trees are cut down each year? Have you eve r planted a tree?
Ask some students to try to answer and then the teacher says: So we should plant more trees every year to prevent natural disasters.
(设计意图:课前导入,用鲜明对比的图片欣赏活跃课堂气氛并且拓展学生视野,并在与学生交流的同时将话题引入新课,同时运用了本课时出现的新单词和重要词汇,在知识点和话题方面都为Comic strip 的呈现做了很好的铺垫。还引导学生认识到植树对环境保护的重要意义。)
Step 2 Presentation
1. Show pictures to present new words. Show a picture of “breadfruit” and ask: Do you think we should plant more such trees? Let students try to answer and tell them what it is.
(设计意图:保护环境种植“breadfruit”这种树有没有意义?顺便呈现新词breadfruit。)
2. Ask: What else can we do to protect the environment? Show more pictures to present new words: dig, wise, reduce, recycle, take shorter showers, turn off.
(设计意图:继续运用环保话题,将本课时会出现的新词全部呈现。)
3. Read the new words.
(设计意图:巩固新单词的读法。)
Step 3 Learn the conversation
Teacher:Do you think Eddie and Hobo like planting trees?
1. Listen to the tape and ask:
(1) Why does Hobo want to plant more trees?
(2) Does Eddie want to go with Hobo?
(3) What does Eddie want to plant?
(设计意图:设问检测学生是否理解对话,如果不能很好的理解,顺便给出学生解释。)
Listen to the tape and follow in chorus. Pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation.
(设计意图:让学生跟读录音,尽量模仿语音语调。)
Read the conversation, you can add your own ideas.
(设计意图:通过表演对话,调动学生记住对话中的句型。)
