Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead in
1. Play a video about our beautiful town ——Qidu.
2. Ask the students to talk about Qidu. Teach the phrases: a town with clean water and fresh air, try to keep it that way, our treasure.
3. Think about how can we keep it that way.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Have a talk with the students about what we can do to keep our town clean and beautiful. Teach the new words and phrases:
be not allowed to -----
be separated into ------
be recycled
be punished
be fined by the police
limit air pollution
new types of energy
cost very little
will never run out
produce little pollution
2. Skimming:
Ask the students to skim the article and try to find the main ideas of each paragraph.
Divide the article into three parts: Part 1 (para1) Introduction. Part 2 (para2—4) Main body. Part 3 (para5) Conclusion.
3. Scanning:
Talk about the three ways to protect the environment. (Para 2, Para3, Para 4)
Way One: Recycling (Para 2). Ask the students to read Para 2 together and finish the chart.
Way Two: Having laws (Para 3). Ask the students to read Para 3 by themselves and combine two parts to make three sentences. (If we cut down trees, we will be punished. If we drop litter in a public place, we will be fined by the police. We have laws to limit air and water pollution)
Way Three: Using new energy (Para 4). Ask the students to listen to Para 4 and finish the chart.
