Watch a video “Earth Song”
T: Pollution is becoming worse and worse. What can we do to protect the environment?21
(Write down the Ss’answers on the blackboard.)
T: We can do many simple things in our daily life. So I want to do a survey how green you are.
e.g. How many students turn off the lights when leaving a room? (One student counts and the others put up hands.)
Step 2 Presentation
T: Just like me, Mr Wu also wants to do a survey about his students’ daily habits. Read some information about the survey first and try to pay attention to numebrs. (Practise listening to some numbers like 40 and 14.)
T: Next, listen to Sandy and Daniel’s conversation and complete the missing information.
T: Now, Daniel and Sandy are talking about the results of the survey. Listen and writen down the numbers. (Say out the results of the survey in complete sentences.)
T: Sandy wants to write a note to Mr Wu. Please help her complete it.
(After checking the answers, read the note together.)
B Speak up (We can plant more trees.)
Step 3 Presentation
T: Sandy and Kitty are talking about how to protect the environment. Listen to theirconversation and answer:What will they do to protect the environment?
T: Listen again and try to complete the blanks.
We can plant more trees. I think our town will look_________with more trees__________. _________ ___________ is harmful to our _________. Trees can reduce dust and help keep the air_______. Trees can also help keep soil in place during __________. They can also ________ __________ for animals.
T: Read their conversation and try to find out: How can trees help us?
(Present new words: dust, soil, in place)
Step 4 Activities
Activity (A) Read the conversation.
Read after the tape.
Read by yourselves.
Read together.
Activity (B) Discussion (Work in groups and talk about what you can do to protect
the environment and why.)
For weaker students, just say like this:
I can __________ to save (water/energy...)
For stronger students, express your ideas like this:
I can use both sides of the paper because it can save paper. We know paper is made from wood. If we waste paper, that is to say, we have to cut down more trees . Then our environment will be worse.
