Step 1 Lead -in (3mins)

T: What can you learn from the video?

S: We live in a beautiful planet with high mountains and green lakes. We live happily with animals around. But things have changed a lot because of the human pollution. As a result, it is time for us to protect the environment.

Intention: To arouse students’ interest and lead them to the topic we will talk about.

Step 2 Pre-listening (5mins)

2. T: Look at the pictures of my students and please describe their actions with a few words.

turn off the tap when brushing teeth / Take shorter showers/ Use both sides of the paper/ Recycle empty bottles/ Turn off the lights when leaving a room/ Take your own bags to the supermarket

They are some simple ways to go green.

Intention: To activate students ‘s existing knowledge

Step 3 While-listening (10mins)

A survey on students’ daily habits

T: World Environment Day is coming. Sandy and Daniel want to do a survey to get some ideas on how to go green in Class 1, Grade 8.

Listen to the tape and fill in the table. Pay attention to time, place and numbers while listening.

Check answers one by one.

Listen to the tape and pay attention to the number of students who have such good habits.

Check answers and answer it with a full sentence

Intention: To improve students’ listening skills by catching some key words

Step 4 Post-listening (10mins) 

T: After doing the survey, Sandy needs to do a report on it and hands it in to Mr Wu.

Listen to the tape and help Sandy to complete the note.

T: With Sandy’s report, Mr Wu has already known students’ daily habits. I want to know your daily habits of going green. Now, please do a survey in your own group and then I’d like to invite a student to give us a report.
