Step 1 Lead-in

Watch a video and help the Ss know the task today from the perspective of Kitty and Sandy.

【设计意图】

教师选择在环保日学习本课时,让学生在真实的情境中进入,课堂从环保日开始,学生通过观看视频,谈谈对环保认识。基于课本中八年级一班的学生,创设Kitty和Sandy的情境。在课的一开始,就提出本节课的是帮助Kitty和Sandy完成环保日的演讲稿,这样导入情境自然,思路清晰,并能够激发学生的学习动力和热情。

Step 2 Review through the mind map

By showing some beautiful pictures of Switzerland, ask Ss:

What’s Green Switzerland in your mind?

2. Based on the context, review Martina’s article through the mind map and help the Ss know the three ways to go green by analyzing “that way” in Para 1: Recycling, Laws and New Energy.

【设计意图】

在一开始,教师问学生眼中的“绿色瑞士”是什么样的,学生对绿的理解还只是停留在表面,如“green mountains, green water, green grass”等等,并没有了解 “go green”的深层次含义,这里为下面的教学埋下一个伏笔,通过教学,学生对“go green”会一步步加深理解。这一环节是对旧知的复习,通过分析第一段中的主题句“We Should keep it that way” 中的“that way”,利用思维导图复习瑞士环保的三大做法,帮助学生对文本有更清晰的认识。

Step 3 Learning in context

“Recycling”

1. Analyze the first way “Recycling” by the mind map and help the Ss learn the following expressions in different ways: separate…into…, separated, separating, recycle.

2. Ask the Ss to separate recyclable and non-recyclable rubbish.

3. Ask the Ss to give examples to produce less rubbish and help the Ss understand that going green means less rubbish.

【设计意图】

首先通过思维导图,复习回收的两个步骤,先分类再回收,让学生学习“separate”和“recycle”的用法。对于垃圾的处理,学生能做些什么呢?教师从热门的垃圾分类着手,给出一些图片,鼓励学生帮助Kitty和Sandy区分可回收和不可回收垃圾(separate recyclable and non-recyclable rubbish),在这样一个情境中,学生不但学会了垃圾的分类,而且在这个过程中又运用了新学的“separate”和“recycle”。通过让学生总结生活中少产生垃圾的例子,让学生意识到“Going green means less rubbish.”

“Laws”

1. Analyze the second way “Laws” by the mind map and help the Ss learn the following expressions in different ways: allow sb to do sth, sb be allowed to do sth, punish, punishment.

2. Encourage the Ss to give more advice on class rules and make class rules according to pictures by using the phrases about “allow” and “punish”.

3. Help the Ss learn going green mean following laws and rules.
