Step 1 Warming up and lead-in
Free talk
How old are you ?
How tall are you ?
Do you still remember your height when you first came to this school?
You see you are growing older and taller. You’re growing up.
What comes to your mind when talking about “growing up”?
Step 2 Presentation
Listen to the tape and answer the following questions.
What’s Eddie thinking about?
What does he want Hobo to help him to do?
Ask the students to repeat after the tape to find if there are any difficulties.
Pair work. Get them to work in pairs to practise the conversation by role playing Eddie and Hobo.

Step 3 Presentation
T: Just like what Eddie said, “Growing up is hard.” But it’s also interesting just like a journey. During the journey there are moments that help us learn and grow. How do you learn about the world? Now let’s read the survey from Mr. Wu in Part A. Put a tick in the box that you think is the most important way you learn about the world.
After they finish, ask some students to say how they learn about the world: I learn about the world from my parents and relatives.
Step 4 Listening and speaking
Simon and Millie are talking about how they like to learn about the world. Listen to the tape and answer the questions.
Why does Millie like to learn about the world from books?
How does Simon like to learn about the world?
Ask the students to repeat after the tape, and then read it for fiv minutes.
Work in pairs to act as Simon and Millie to practise the conversation.
Step 5 Practice
Get the students to work in pairs and talk about how they like to learn about the world and why they like to do that way. While they are practicing, the teacher walks around the classroom to give some help. Then ask some pairs to share theirs in class.
