Step1. Lead in
Have a free talk with the students.
Show a short video about Slam Dunk Contest.
Step2.Pre-reading
Show some pictures about Spud Webb. Mention some new words while looking at the pictures. Ask students to guess something about Spud according to the title---The shortest player in the NBA.
Step3.While-reading
Fast reading.
(1)Ask students to skim the passage to get the general idea. Show students the reading tips while skimming.
(2)Scanning. Ask students to go through the reading quickly to get answers to three simple questions. Show them the reading tips of scanning.
2. Careful reading
(1) Ask students to read Para 2-3. Complete a table.
(2)Read Para 4. Fill in the blanks to complete the sentences.
(3)Read Para5. Mark “True” or “False” and correct these wrong sentences.
(4)Ask students to read Para 6 aloud together. Raise a question: What did Spud prove?
Step 4. Post-reading
