Step1 Free talk
When you read a passage and come across some new words , what will you do?
When we read and come across new words, we can sometimes guess their meanings by the way they are formed ,that is to say word formation.
Step2?Presentation?
List the two words: form and formation. Talk about their parts of speech and meanings. Tell Ss “form” is a root word, and “-ation” is a suffix.
Give Ss a tip.
Task1: Learn some more suffixes that form nouns and practise them.
Task2: Learn some more suffixes that form adjectives and adverbs and practise them. Give Ss a second tip.
Return to the two words: form and formation, and present a new word information and lead in prefixes.
Task3: Learn some prefixes that that we can get opposite meanings by adding them, then practice them. Give Ss a third tip.
Task4: Introduce compound words and practise them.
