Show the content of this lesson: Today we’ll learn “Giving reasons with because”. We will solve two problems: when do we use it. And how do we use it.
Guessing game
Show a picture of a girl crying and encourage students to guess:
Why is the girl crying?
Lead students to answer: Because…. (Write it on the blackboard.)
Show other pictures and go on guessing.
Guide students to recall the dialogue with ‘because’in ‘welcome to the unit’.
Millie: Why do you love him ( Michael Jackson)?
Daniel: Because he was the King of Pop.
Let students sum up:
Tip 1: Because is used to answer why questions.
Step Two. Presentation
1. Show the picture of Tan Dun and let students say something about him.
2. Show some more questions about Tan Dun and let students discuss with their classmates and try to find out the answers.
3. Check the answers in pairs.
4. Use a complete sentence to answer question 4:
People think highly of Tan’s music because he has created a new type of music—music without boundaries.
5. Sum up:
Tip 2: Because is also used to introduce clauses of reason.
6.Show the following sentences on the board and ask: Is it a right sentence?
Because he thinks the best music comes from nature, so he likes the sounds of nature.
Guide students to say out the correct one. Sum up: In one sentence, there is only one word (because or so). We can put because at the beginning of a sentence or in the middle. But we only put so in the middle of a sentence.

Tip 3: We never use the conjunction so in sentences with because.
8. Translate the following sentences into Chinese.
(1) 因为音乐让我感到放松,所以我喜欢听音乐。
(2) 因为我热爱大自然,所以我对谭盾的音乐很痴迷。
(3) 因为谭盾创造了伟大的音乐,所以世界人民都钦佩他。
Have students write their answers on the boards. Lead students to use a pronoun to replace the noun which appears a 2nd time in a sentence.
