1. Knowledge objectives:
1) Master the expressions about detective stories.

Phrases: go missing; medium height
Sentences: A detective is someone who looks for clues to something important.
He looks untidy and nervous.

2) Get to identify the defining relative clauses.
2. Ability objectives:
1) Improve the students’ skills of fast reading to locate specific information, as well as their speaking and listening skills.
2) Encourage the students to develop their reasoning abilities by talking about who they think is likely to be the murderer.
3) Help the students to experience the feelings of Eddie and Hobo in the comic strip through acting.

1) Learn to read beyond the lines in the notes of the detective story through inferring.

Step 1 Warming-up activity and lead in (6’)
Watch the video clip of the film “Sherlock Holmes” and encourage the students to talk about the qualities of a detective. A warming-up activity in the beginning of the class aims to encourage interactivity between the students and the teacher.
【Purpose of the design】
The design in the beginning of the class is used to arouse the students’ interest in the topic of the teaching material and make sure the students can get the natural acquisition of the new expressions in the unit.
Step 2 Presentation (14’)
1. Read the police’s report to get basic information about a detective story, including what, when, where and who. While asking the students questions, present the new expressions about a detective story to them, such as the time/scene of the crime, suspect, victim and guilty.
