Teaching precedures:
Step1 Pre-reading
1.After showing the picture about the title ,Ss try to predict the story ,such as what happened?/who was murdered? /where was he murdered?
2. After showing a picture of a mestery man ,guess the name (Sherlock holmes)and learn about him as well. 3. Learning about what makes a good detective through the mestery man .
Step2 While reading
Test1 Are you quick-thinking?
To get the main idea of each part through skimming and answer 4WH- questions through scanning.
Test2 Are you careful ? (group work)
To get the information of different characters through careful reading.
Test3 Do you have reasoning ability?
Go back to the scenes ,watch the media and Ss are encouraged to think further about the story.
Test4 Are you brave ?
Be brave to read the detective story alone with emotion.
Step 3 Post-reading
Test5 Are you imaginative? (group work )
Task 1 Write an ending to the story and evaluate if you are able to be a good detective writer.
Task 2 Show an adervertisement (Sherlock is advertising for an assistant)..Ss play the role of different characters to recommend themselves. Ss are encouraged to think further about the story.
Step4 Conclusion
What can we learn from the text? Detective reminds.
