5. The first thing that we should do is to learn each subject well.
Step 2 Object Clause:
一.Ask the students to join the two sentences together and then talk about the three major elements of object clause:
1. He’s going to take care of my dog while I am away. He said ---.
He said (that) he was going to take care of my dog while I was away.
2. Has he told us the truth? I wonder ---.
I wonder whether / if he has told us the truth.
3. Who is going to give us a talk this afternoon? Could you tell me?
Could you tell me who is going to give us a talk this afternoon?
二.Work out the rules:
that引导陈述句的宾语从句, if /whether引导一般疑问句的宾语从句,where,what,how,which,why等特殊疑问词引导的宾语从句;所有的从句都用陈述句的语序;主句为过去时,从句也要用过去的某种时态。
三.Tips:
1. 有些句子本身就是陈述句语序。
What’s wrong with you? What’s the matter with you?
What has happened to Millie? She looks so worried.
Which is the way to the nearest supermarket?
Who broke the window?
2. 客观真理、自然现象、名人名言或谚语只能用一般现在时。
1) The teacher told us(that) nothing _________ (be) difficult if you ________ (put) your heart into it.
2) The geography teacher told us that the sun _________ (rise) in the east and _________ (set) in the west.
3) Japan ________ (lie) to the east of China.
4) He said practice __________ (make) perfect.
5) He meant truth ________ (be) stranger than fiction.
Step 3 Relative clause:
一.Complete the sentences and work out the rules: 关系代词who指人,which指物,that既可以指人也可以指物,在定语从句中作宾语时可省略;先行词同时包括人或物时,关系词用that;如果关系代词作从句的主语,则从句谓语动词的人称和数与先行词保持一致;定语从句对时态不产生影响。
