Scanning: Read and match

Ask students to find the locations of four attractions. Help Millie draw a map of Beijing and match the numbers with the attractions.

Detailed reading:

Read Paragraph 2 about the Palace Musuem and judge T or F. Check the answers.

Read Paragraph 3 &4 about Tian`anmen Square and the Summer Palace .Answer the questions.

Read paragraph 5 and answer:

Why is the Great wall one of the wonders of the world?

Check the answer. Help them imagine what the Great Wall was used for in the past. Introduce a saying that he who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man.

Step 3 Reading about Guilin

Pre-reading: show students some pictures of Guilin:

How do you feel when seeing these pictures?

Show a saying: East or west, Guilin landscape is best.

Fast reading: Read and match

Read the second article and work out the main idea of each paragraph. Check the answers.

Detailed reading:

Read Paragraph 2 and ask students to find two adjectives to describe Guilin:

Beautiful, fantastic ---> Which sentences support her opinion?

Show some pictures to help students understand better.

Read Paragraph 3 about the Reed Flute Cave. Answer:

What`s special/ amazing about the cave?

Check the answer. Show a picture of the cave to help the students understand some difficult sentences.

Read Paragraph 4 and ask students what to do in Guilin.

Show pictures to understand better.

Step4. Post- reading

Critical thinking: work in pairs and have students compare Beijing and Guilin: Which city do you like better? Why?

After students show their answers, the teacher can lead the students to conclude more differences between the two cities.
