Step 3: Zombie Zone
1. Set students in the mood of zombie killing.
2. Students review some phrases
Purpose: In this section, phrases will be reviewed. It is set in the background of Plants vs. Zombies. Review the phrases by playing the games, which makes students more willingly to take part in.
Step 4: Crazy Mushrooms
1. Explain to students that crazy mushrooms are the words and phrases having different forms and are easy to be mixed up.
2. Students try to distinguish the forms of those “shape shifters”.
Purpose: In this two units, the usage of some phrases are easy to be mixed up, such as, the phrases concerning “marry”, “used”, “way”, etc. Put this expressions together and let the students figure out the differences is necessary.
Step 5: Black Lake
1. In order to save the princess, students have to go across the Black Lake. The monster lives under the lake needs the students to explain something to him. The question is “What is the present perfect tense.”
2. Students discuss in groups from four perspectives: form; when to use; time expressions and verbs with for and since.
3. One student comes up to the stage and explain it to the whole class.
Purpose: The present perfect tense is the key point of these two units. Students discuss together and conclude the rules of grammar instead of being explained by the teacher, which is not only mean to develop their team spirit but also train students analyzing and concluding skills.
Step 6: Dragon Fire
1. The final level of the game is to defeat Dragon Fire. Some exercises have been designed for students to complete.
2. Several students have been invited to come to the blackboard to explain the exercises to the whole class.
Purpose: This lesson is the revision for high school entrance examination, so the exercises are chosen for purpose of taking the exam. Most of the exercises are chose from college entrance examination which are a bit challenging for the students. In this section, students volunteer as a little teacher to explain the exercises for the whole class which trains the students explaining skills, and the peers study is much more efficient.
