Step 1. To revise the famous people by asking Ss some questions:
1.What’s his name?
2 What’s he?
3 Can you tell me something about his achievements?
(I design this part with the aim of revising the great people learnt in this unit.)
Step 2 Introduction
Lead in a great woman in science. Free talk:
Do you know who Marie Curie is? What did Marie Curie do?
Word-study. I’d like to show Ss some pictures of Marie Curie’s life and achievements and teach the new words: radium, laboratory,professor, discovery and so on at the same time.
(I want to help the Ss master the new words and check if they have previewed the text.)
Step 3. Listening
Before listening
I’ll tell something about Marie Curie’s husband, and tell them something about the couple.
Ask students to read Part A1 and answer questions:
1.Where was Marie Curie born?
2. What did she study at university?
3. What were she and her husband famous for?
4. How many times did she win the Nobel Prize?
