Step 1 Warming up
Show a picture on the screen. Then have a free talk with the students: Look! What’s this? What is the little elephant doing? Is he happy? Do you like playing soccer? Do you have a soccer ball?
Watch a video. Then ask:What can you see in the video? What are they doing? How do they feel?
Lead in to the new word “fun”.
Show some more pictures. Help students to describe these pictures with a word, such as “interesting, boring, difficult, relaxing.”
Read the new words following the teacher. Then try to read them by themselves.
Play a game: Give the students only one minute. Ask them to recite the new words, not only the Chinese meanings, but also the English names.
Step 2 Presentation
Call attention to the pictures in Activity 1a. Then match the words with the pictures.
Check the answers.
Read the words together. Then listen to the tape and check the words they hear in 1a.
Play the recorder again. Listen to it sentence by sentence and check the answers.
Show some pictures of different kinds of sports. Review the phrases: play volleyball, play basketball, play soccer, play ping-pong, play computer games, play chess, play the piano, watch TV.
Review how to use “play”.
Learn how to use “Let’s …”. Then play a game: For example, The teacher says “volleyball”, then the students say “Let’s play volleyball.”
Look at the exercise in Activity 1c. Then listen to the tape and write down the correct description words.
Listen again and check the answers.
Listen to the tape sentence by sentence and try to repeat them correctly.
Read the whole conversation together.
Step 3 Practice
