Teaching important points:
1.New words and expressions of this period.
2.Identifty ownership by using general questions and nominal possessive pronouns
Teaching difficult points:
1. Use general questions to talk about the ownership of certain school things both in singular and plural forms.
2. Help students to know the difference between nominal possessive pronouns and adjectival possessive pronouns clearly and use nominal possessive pronouns to identify owners skillfully.
Teaching background:
1.The students have already learned the structure of general questions in unit2 and most students have grasped it quite well.
2.The students have already learned the usage of these adjectival possessive pronouns: my, your, his, her, so it will be a little bit easier to teach them the usage of the nominal possessive pronouns in this unit.
3. Most new words and expressions of this period are related to school things, so students would feel easy and eager to learn.
Teaching procedure:
1.New words
Use the following sentence patterns to teach new words of this unit by showing related pictures
1) Words in singular form
T: What’s this?
S: It’s a / an ... ...
T: What’s that?
S: It’s a / an ... ...
2) Words in plural form
T: What are these?
S: They are ... ...
T: What are those?
S: They are ... ...
During this procedure, the teacher asks students to pay attention to the plural forms of “boxes and dictionaries”.
2. Guessing game
Ask students to use general questions to guess what the school thing is behind each picture.
S: Is this a / an ... ...?
T: Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t.
If the student gets the right answer, the teacher will give him/her a gift.
This game is aimed at helping students be more familiar with the new words.
