20Students understand the topic of the passage and predict the general contents after reading the instructions. To provoke thinking and prediction;
to get a whole grasp of the passage. Students skim the letter and decide T/F by locating some key information. To check students’ understanding of some detailed information and key phrases; to improve their reading skills. Students figure out the structure of this letter in reply giving advice by dividing it into mainly 3 parts and 3 subparts. To help the ss figure out the structure of this letter giving advice.Students tell the detailed advice given by the counselor for these three problems respectively. To check ss’s deep understanding of the problems and advice; awaken ss’s awareness of doing the right thing. Students answer two questions:
What was the common mistake of those three writers?
What was wrong/ not right to do?To help the ss realize the importance of having a clear conscience and a good sense of telling right from wrong.Post- reading Activities
12Students compare the advice given by our student counsellors with that given in the text and express their views (better/ agree/disagree?). To retrospect what ss discussed in the beginning of the class and provoke critical thinking. Students discuss in groups to write a reply giving advice as a class counsellor to solve one of the three situations and express their opinions and reasons;
with the help of the given structure;
Others make comments (advice/reasons reasonable?). To output what they have learned in form of speaking and writing;
to encourage the ss to be aware of a good sense of telling right from wrong and willingness to help others solve problems.
