1 Knowledge goals

Get the students to learn the knowledge about PNG and work in PNG as a volunteer teacher.

2 Ability goals

Strengthen the ability of scanning and mastering the general idea of the text.

3 Emotional attitudes and values:

Make the students know what is a volunteer and the spirit of volunteers.

Get the students to realize that they should make the most of what they own and do something for the people who need help.

Help them realize the importance of sharing.

Teaching key points:  

1.Key point: how to help the students get the main idea the of the passage

in limited time.

Difficult point:how to help the students understand the meaning of the volunteer work and establish the correct value,cultivate students’ love of helping others out in daily life

Teaching procedures:

Step I Leading in

Show the students an advertising video about “Wuhan 2019 7th CISM Military World Games”to let them discuss what they can do for this great events , and then show them some pictures of voluntary work, which lead to the the important factors of a volunteer.

Step II Pre-reading

1 Asked the students to get some details about Papua New Guinea, including location,language,economy and so on ,now ask them hand it in to check the answers.At the same time show some pictures for them, help them get some background information of this passage.

2 Ask the students to do prediction (According to the title, what questions can you raise to predict the content of the text?)

Step III Reading

1 Fast reading to get the main idea of this passage by completing the sentence:

A young volunteer, Jo wrote a letter about her experience as a teacher and her first visit to a village which is the home of her students.

2 Let the students read the first and last paragraph together to find out the relationship between Jo and Rosemary,then help them get the meaning of “be dying to”and “......help you picture the places ......”

3 Ask the students to go through the 2nd &3rd paragraph to know the learning conditions in PNG by complete the chart:
