2. Teaching aims:

1) To help the students to grasp some basic skills of communication

2) To help the students develop speaking skills and some reading skills: skimming, scanning.

3) To enable the students to understand the meaning of new words and key phrases:

To help the students to talk with foreigners bravely, politely and properly.

4. Teaching methods:

1) Question-and-answer activity teaching method.

2) Task-based teaching method

3) Pair work or individual work method.

5 .Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Lead- in

T: In this unit, we will talk about something about manners. Do you know what manners are? Can you share something with us?

S: Good manners are to be polite to the old, always think of others and respect others.

While bad manners is to make personal comments, throw waste papers and plastic bags in public places, or talk loudly on the phone in the cinema ……

T: Yes. Good manners mean good behavior in social communication. A person with good manners always conduct about proper behavior in social situations .As we all know, politeness costs nothing and gains everything.

S: …..

T: Now I will show you some pictures on the screen and then invite someone to tell us which one shows good manners or which shows bad manners, ok?

Step 2.Reading---skimming

Read the passage briefly (only read the title, the first and last sentences of each paragraph) and divide the passage into three parts.

Make a summary for each part.

Part one ---Most people have the experience of failing to start a conversation with a foreigner.

Part two --- Tips on how to know if the foreigner wants to start talking with you.

Part three ---Tips on how to start a conversation and how to move on it.
