What is nonverbal humour?

读两封信,体会英式幽默。思考并回答问题。

引入话题,激发学生兴趣,在体会“英式幽默”的同时,了解什么是nonverbal humour.

Step II While-reading

1.引导学生自主阅读,从三个层面描述卓别林最深入人心的角色“小流浪汉”的形象。

Level 1: physical appearance

Level 2: general impression

Level 3: inner quality

2. 引导学生阅读文中描写“小流浪汉”吃皮鞋的片段,欣赏卓别林的演技。

活动:(1)在阅读过程中划出描述性动词、形容词及名词;

(2)在黑板上列出划出的词,学生尝试复述这一场景。

【预留问题】What made it possible for Chaplin to give such convincing performance?

3.让学生自主阅读课文,通过思考卓别林的人生经历。组织小组讨论,回答问题:

Do you think his poor childhood helped him in work? Why? Can you find out the facts to support your idea?

4.组织学生再次阅读课文,理解卓别林的伟大贡献以及成为默剧大师的原因。思考并回答问题:

Think: Why was Charlie Chaplin and the little tramp popular at that time? What did Charlie Chaplin’s performance bring to the audience during the hard days?

Answer the question:

What great achievements did Chaplin achieve in his lifetime?

Why is Charlie Chaplin considered as a master?

5. 学生快速浏览文章,总结课文大意与篇章结构。

Para1: Chaplin’s popularity

Para2: Chaplin’s childhood

Para3: Chaplin’s famous film character

Para4: An example of Chaplin’s film
