二、学生学情分析
Students have a good basis, they have a good reading habit, and they can master both skimming and scanning well to get the main idea and detailed information. While reading, they try to find out some key words and expressions to comprehend the material. It is useful for them to build up their vocabulary and master some good sentences. Students need to learn how to organize the passage, write one’s life story and describe one’s feelings.
二、教学重点、难点
Key points:
a. To enable students to use skimming to get the main idea and scanning to get the detailed information.
b. To enable students to summarize the context according to each part.
c. To enable students to talk about the way Helen learnt words, to improve their abilities of summarizing and to enrich their life experiences and have a positive outlook.
Difficulty points: To find suitable words to describe Helen Keller, and find out the changes of her feelings in details.

Ⅰ. Warming up
Game: Stand in the disabled’s shoes (experience the life of the disabled)
Free talk: How much do you know about Helen Keller?
A brief introduction to Helen Keller.
Ⅱ. While-reading
Skimming
Skim and find out the structure of the passage. ( Three parts)
Scanning
1) Para.1 ( before her teacher came)
a. Who is Helen’s teacher? Is her teacher important to her?
b. How do you understand the word “light”?
c. What did she think of her life before her teacher came? Why did she think so?
Summary: hopeless, desperate(绝望的),gloomy, pessimistic, a sense of constraint (束缚感)
