Step 2 Discussion (group work)

Ask the following question (---Bb):

T: Mrs. Li, Mrs. Chen and Mr. Wu are all good teachers, right?

Ss: (Yes.)

T: But they are different, right?

Ss: (Yes.)

T: How different are they?

Ss: (They have different characters, different teaching styles. And they make different impressions on the students.)

T: That’s quite right. The student in the text uses the words “like”, “appreciate” and “respect” to show their feelings about the teachers. So when we introduce a teacher, what do we talk about?

Ss: (We can talk about his/her character, teaching style and the students’ feelings about him/her. Maybe we can also talk about our first impression of the teacher. )

Step 3 Pre-writing (a favourite teacher)

1. Assign this task:

T: Now I would like you to introduction a teacher who you like best at your Junior High school. You can write down some key words on your Learning Plan to help you. Now do it on your own.

2. Individual work (5 minutes)

3. Group work:

T: Now please work in groups. Introduce your teacher to your partners one by one. Everyone must finish this oral practice.

4. Ask some Ss to introduce their favourite teacher orally.

Step 4 Pre-writing (criteria of a good teacher)

1. T: Every student wishes to study with a good teacher. But what should a good teacher be like?

2. Show the practice.

1) He/She should __________________________, so that we can understand very well.

2) A good teacher ____________________ when the students make mistakes.

3) He/She ___________________________ when the students make progress.

4) A good teacher _____________________. As a result, the students never fall asleep in class.
