(Ability aims:

Enable students to write a simple scientific experiment report.

Enable students to transform a report into a composition.

(Emotion aims;

To cultivate students’ enthusiasm about experiment and to encourage students to practice more.

To enhance students’ safety awareness through learning different reaction between metals and different substances.

The analysis of students

This is a common class whose major is science subject. Most of the students are active but they are not so good at English, especially in pronunciation. However, they like chemistry very much. Through the lead-in experiment of “blowing air to catch fire” ,arouse students’ interest in this lesson.

Emphasis and difficulties

(Teaching emphasis: Some important words, phrases and the linking words used in transforming a report.

(Teaching difficulties: Writing an English experiment report and transforming a report into a composition.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1. Warming up(Revision)

Give students some sentences to guess some words of this lesson. First, students can review some words in this way. Second, the activity can arouse students interest in learning and cooperation.

Step 2. Lead in

First, the teacher do an experiment to lead in the topic--A Lesson in a Lab. The experiment is related to the topic, which can arouse students interest. Meanwhile, it can make preparations for the whole lesson. Second, use some pictures to enable students to know some metals in this lesson.

Step 3. Reading passage A

First, introduce some metals which will be mentioned in passage A.

Second, ask students to read passage A and answer three questions. The aim is to practice students ability of grasping key information quickly.

Questions1: What is important when we use different metals?

Questions 2: Which metal reacts most and which metal reacts least?

Questions 3: which is the best title for the passage?

Third, ask students to look through the table quickly, and answer another three questions:(To make preparations for passage B)

2. If we heat sodium in oxygen, it will_____________________.
