VII. Teaching Procedure
Step 1 Greetings and Lead-in
T: Good morning, class.
S: Good morning, teacher.
T: Maybe most of you think that English grammar is very difficult and boring, do you think so?
S: Yes.
T: Actually, I don’t think so. So today I’ll teach you how to learn English grammar in a different way. It’s very easy.
Step 2 Teach the students what is "the Past Perfect Tense."
Show the students the traditional explanation of the Past Perfect Tense. Ask them if they can understand the tense according to the definition.
Give the students two examples to explain the Past Perfect Tense.
Sentence one: When the policemen arrived, the thief had already run away.
Sentence two: Before my mum came in, I had turned off the computer.
Let the students know there are two actions in each sentence. The two actions both happen in the past. We use the past perfect tense if the action happens first. We use the past simple tense if the action happens later.
