Many problems can be found in their usual writings such as lacking linking words, using simple and repeated sentence patterns, misusing words and expressions and so on. So more writing tasks are supposed to be given to students to strengthen their writing abilities and to improve their ways of English thinking.
From the aspect of culture: Learning a second language is more than a language itself. Our students have little knowledge base about the cities of main English-speaking countries. This writing intends to lead the students to know more about their hometown and its sister city. Students need to raise the awareness of knowing more about foreign countries, cities and their cultures.
