Step 1 Warming up
Ask the stu dents to talk about the pictures in the Introduction, page 21.
Questions: 1.Do you know which kind of disaster?
2.Have you ever experienced a flood/ hurricane/ tornado------?
Step 2 Lead-in
Show some pictures of the natural disasters, and ask students to describe the characters of them.
Tornado: A rotating column of air from a thunderstorm to the ground.
Typhoon: A tropical cyclone occurring in the western Pacific or Indian oceans.
Hurricane: A violent storm with extremely strong winds and heavy rain.
Tsunami: An earthquake originating under the sea floor,which can cause damage to us.
Lightning: the bright flashes of light that you see in the sky during a storm.
Thunderstorm: A violent storm of thunder and lightning, often accompanied by rain and sometimes hail.
Flood :A large amount of water that covers an area which was dry before.
