Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
1. The teacher will have the students discuss the following question: -Who is the most famous person in ancient China?
2. The teacher will present a piece of news about Confucius schools and help them learn about the popularity of Confucius and Chinese culture. And they have to answer the following question:
-What information can you get from the news?
By December 2010, there had been more than 300 Confucius institutes(孔子学院) and 300 Confucius classrooms (孔子课堂) in 96 countries all over the world, with 40,000,000 people learning Chinese.
The answer: Confucius and Chinese culture are very popular now.
Step 2 Introduction: vocabulary
1. Check the meaning of these words in activity 1 on p.41. i. Learn about their meanings; ii.Read them loud together. Correct their pronunciation if necessary.
2. Discuss to fill in the little passage with the words in activity 1. They may need to change the words.
3. Check their answers.
4. Read the little passage loud. They need to recite it after class. (This part will lead the class to reading part, with the following question: Would you like to learn more about the three great philosophers in ancient China?)
