Several months later, my parents went to have a meeting somewhere. “ The whole village will move to HeBei” Mum said, “A dam will be build here to control flooding and provide hydro-electric power. Villagers were no happy at first.

However, with the help of the government, we moved into a brand-new house in Wuchang, which is similar to my hometown. We were informed kids could go to school free of charge. Soon we had electricity at home. How lucky we are!

When I graduated from Wuhan University, I took my elderly parents back to my hometown. What we saw shocked us. We witnessed the biggest construction project in China since the Great Wall and The Grand Canal. Sadly, we couldn’t see some famous historical sites, including the Qu Yuan Temple, the Han tower and the Maya cliff carvings. Hundreds of historical relics have been submerged. A big reservoir there has flooded over 4000 villages, 2 cities, 11 counties and 140 towns. What a pity!
