Language skills:
a. To read the passage quickly and find specific information by fast reading and detailed reading;
b. By the end of the class, my students will be able to improve their listening and speaking skills through creative thinking and group discussion;
Inter-culture and responsibility awareness:
a. Students will learn more about the culture from different countries, know the meaning of the Gap Year better and think deeply about their own gap year schedules.
b. Students will know the meaning of the voluntary jobs and that nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something not only to themselves but also to the world.
Part II. Students Analysis:
The Students are from the class of liberal arts of Grade One. They have achieved basic abilities in English reading comprehension and like to air their opinions, so discussions and shows in groups are supposed to be carried out effectively.
Part III. Important Points and Difficulties:
a. Language focuses
To improve the Students’ reading ability, for instance, to read the passage and find out the detailed information quickly.
To understand the meaning of the gap year, and use proper expressions and grammar to describe the details related to the gap year schedules of their groups.
b. Anticipated difficulties
(1) Express their own opinions and ideas, especially from different aspects.
(2) Use as many words, phrases and sentence patterns as possible in book 3 in order to revise.
Part IV. Teaching Process:
I. Warming up
a. Play the video for the students about traveling around the world to arouse their interests. Then introduce the gap year with Mr Sun’s famous book “My Late Gap Year” and tell the meanings of “gap year”.
b. The teacher asks the students if they like traveling around the world and let the students do a guessing game about the destinations of Mark’s gap year. The teacher shows students some information and let students guess which countries they belong to.
The first group:
The second group: (Imply students: This country has a city which lies on the water, and some film festivals are often held there)
The third group: (Imply students: The houses there are very special with the bright color white and blue. Besides,when we were children, we often read many myth stories about this country.)
The fourth group: listen to a song and tell me which country it is.
The fifth group: This is my favorite delicious food which can recall me of my happy time with my relatives.
