Teaching Procedures:
Step 1. Introduction
1. Ask Ss to guess the meaning of the body language according to the teacher’s gestures.
(1) Thumb up 真棒 (2) Stop 停 (3) Ok 好的 (4) Victory 胜利
2. Ask Ss to match the verbs in the box with the pictures in Activity 1 on page 21.
3. Ask Ss to listen to the tape and match the situations with the pictures in Activity 2 on page 21.
4. Ask Ss to discuss the situations in Activity 3 on page 21.
Step 2. Listening and Vocabulary
1、Pre-Listening
(1) Point out the parts of the body and ask Ss to try to name them, and then check their answers.
Related words: limb, palm, elbow, fist, thumb, arm, tongue, cheek, neck, waist, spine, stomach, lap, lips, ankle, chest, eyebrow, finger, forehead, knee, shoulder, wrist.
(2) Ask Ss to do exercises in Activity 2 on page 24.
2. While-Listening
(1) Ask Ss to listen to a conversation and finish Activity 3 on page 25.
(2) Listen again and finish Activity 4 on page 25
3. Post-Listening
Ask Ss do role-play in pairs: One is an American, the other is a Chinese student who is going to the US. Then ask each pair to make a dialogue in which an American gives some advice.
Step 3. Everyday English
Ask Ss to understand what the phrases in Everyday English mean. Then ask them to think out what situations the phrases can be used in.
Step 4. Function
1. Ask Ss to do exercises in Activity 1 and 2 on page 25 and try to understand the usage of “should” and “must”.
◆ should的用法:
(1) 表示应该做的事,含有“建议,劝告”的语气。如:
I’ll start the work tomorrow.我明天开始这项工作。
I think you should start at once.我想你应当立刻开始。
