Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Leading-in
Enjoy a video.
Step 2 Presentation
Show a picture of family tree and ask students to review some words.
Learn new words: dad, mom, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle ,cousin, son and daughter.
Let students finish Gina’s family tree to consolidate the new words.
Ask students to fill in the blanks using new words they have learned.
Finish 1a.
Students add the words in the box to the family tree. Then check the answers together.
Step 3 Listening (1b&1c)
Tell students they will listen to a dialog between Jiang Tao and Tom. For the first time, they should listen carefully and check the words they hear. Then check the answers.
Listen again. This time, students should choose the right picture that Jiang Tao and Tom are talking about. Then ask students to give the right answer.
Step 4 Practice
Pair work
Students talk with their partners and make dialogs using the following sentence patterns: Who’s he/she? He/She is … Who’re they? They are… Then ask some pairs to act out their dialogs in front of the class.
Group work
Divide the students into 4 groups. Ask them to look at a family photo carefully and discuss with group members. They should write at least 4 sentences to introduce their family members. Then each group choose a student to come to the front to show their results. The best student will be rewarded.
Step5 Homework
1d.Draw a picture of your family and friends. Tell your partner about it.
