PartⅠ. Understanding of this Lesson
The analysis of the teaching material
This lesson is designed as a reading and writing lesson which is about how to describe a famous person and write logically and effectively. It is an important part of this module. After this lesson, the students will know some important reading skills, such as scanning and skimming. At the same time, they will grasp the way of describing a person. Besides, the lesson will raise students’ awareness to love our motherland and encourage them to work hard to make a breakthrough in the field of science and technology.
The analysis of the students
The students in the class have known something about the topic, because they have talked about it in the previous period. But some long sentences are difficult for them to understand. They don’t often use English to express themselves and communicate with others. Some students are not active in class because some are afraid of making mistakes while speaking. So during the lesson, I’ll arrange a variety of activities to let all the students join in class to attract their attention and make them confident.
Part Ⅱ: Teaching Aims
1. Knowledge aim
(1) The students can master the usage of the important words and expressions.
(2) The students can get to know how to introduce a famous person.
(3) The students can use the new phrases to express their own idea in the proper situation.
2. Ability aims
(1) To develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
(2) To guide students to set up effective studying strategies.
(3) To learn to be imaginative and creative.
(4) To train the students’ abilities of studying by themselves and cooperating with others.
3. Emotional or moral aims
(1) By completing the task, the students increase their interest and set up self-confidence in learning English.
(2) Call on students to love their motherland and work hard to make a contribution to science and technology of our country.
Part Ⅲ. Important and Difficult Points
The important points are to help students know how to describe scientists and grasp the usage of some important words.
The difficult point is to help students get high marks in writing by means of various expressions.
