Part I Analysis of teaching

1.1 Teaching background

1.1.1 Analysis of the teaching material

Status and function: It is the second module of the Student’s Book4 in foreign language teaching and research press. It mainly practices the ability of reading and giving advice. As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of the teaching material. According to the New Standard Curriculum, we should enable the students to express their views on which places want to go and how to go their destinations.

Key points: How to get the students to grasp the structure of the text and write a composition about how to choose the route to get around in Beijing.

Difficult points: How to encourage the students to express their opinions and debate.

1.1.2 Analysis of the students

Senior One students are active in thinking, interested in reading and have got a lot of knowledge about novels from their after-class reading activities.

Some students are not active, because they are afraid to make mistakes. So I design a lot of activities to stimulate students’ English learning interest and encourage them to speak and think more with the help of information technology means.

1.2 Teaching aims

1.2.1 Knowledge aim

1. Enable the students to grasp the structure of the text and understand the main idea of each part and detailed information.

2. Enable the students to use basic sentence patterns to express their views. Such as, You should…, and make sure…, It is a good idea to…, I advise/suggest you to do…, etc.

1.2.2 Ability aim

1. Learn about the means of transport in Beijing. The students are encouraged to give advice to visitors.

2. Students learn to use some sentence patterns to give advice in writing or in a dialogue.

3. To improve the student’s reading ability, especially their fast reading and scanning ability.

1.2.3 Emotion aim

1. Students can learn how to get around in some places.

2. From this passage, the students will learn how to give advice to visitors, putting the moral education in the language study.
