Some students are not interested in writing a composition, so situational teaching is a good method to raise their interest. Besides, they’ve already know some good expressions but sometimes they forget to use them in practice so it’s a good idea to encourage them to use good sentences.

Main Points and Difficult Points:

How to retell the letter?

Write compositions with good words and sentences.

Teaching Process:

Step I. Leading in

Show two pictures to the students and give them a situation. The situation is that the boy called Nicholas who used to be an exchange student writes an E-mail to you. The E-mail includes a video. Play the video about carnival to the students.

Step II. Fast Reading

Click the letter. Let the students read the letter and catch the main idea of the letter.

Step III. Detailed Reading

Answer questions:

Give the situation to the students: The English teacher appears suddenly and raises some questions to check whether you can understand the letter. Try to answer the questions to prove your ability of reading.

Retell the letter:

Give another situation to the students: One of your classmates wants to look through the letter but you delete it by mistake. In order to make up for your mistake, please retell the letter with the help of clues.

Step IV. Writing

The situation is that the classmate advises you to write back.

Pick up the topic: The Dragon boat Festival.

Three aspects: date, origin and activities. Think of the phrases about these aspects.

Let the students write their composition.

After writing, let the students work in groups, exchange their compositions, choose the best sentences, share the best sentences and tell others why these sentences are good.
