《Grammar》新课标教案优质课下载
The students are able to use if clause using subjunctive mood to express their wishes, regrets and imaginations.
Teaching Procedure:
Step 1: Lead-in
Greet Ss and play a song for them. While listening, the Ss should fill in the blanks in the lyrics and pay attention to words in color.
The lyrics: If I _______ a boy
Even just for a day
I’d roll out of bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted and go
Drink beer with the guys
And chase after girls
I’d kick it with who I wanted
And I’d never get confronted for it
Because they’d stick up for me
If I ______ a boy
I think that I could understand
how it feels to love a girl
I swear I’d be a better man
After listening to the song, the teacher leads the students to conclude that subjunctive mood can be used to describe things that are impossible, unreal or unlikely to happen. Then introduce the topic of the class.
Step 2: Reading and finding out sentences
The students are asked to work in pairs to read the story and underline the sentences using subjunctive mood in the passage. Then the teacher asks a student to read the sentences.
Tommy didn’t do well in the College Entrance Examination.
His father, King, thought that he should go to the university, although it is not good.
His mother, Queen, thought that he should study another year at high school and try again next year.
King and Queen had a quarrel.
King: Tommy should go to university.
