(I) Ability level
Many students have known some reading skills. But they don't really master them. In this lesson, I want to develop the ability of understanding the main idea. So it is necessary to create opportunities for students’ improvement in reading comprehension.
(II) Level of knowledge
Although students know something about American senior high school life, their vocabulary is still limited. Learning in a real environment will overcome the drawbacks of abstract knowledge. Thus, students can understand better and learn grammar and vocabulary more effectively.
(III) Psychological characteristics
Our students do have a desire for self-expression, but they are afraid of being laughed at, so we are supposed to encourage them to participate in class activities, and help lay the foundation for lifelong learning.

Students analyze the writers’ character and use their own words to describe their school life.
