Learning strategies:
Cognitive strategy: Students are guided to pay attention to the first one or two sentences of each paragraph and catch the key words to guess what is talked about in the following part and get the main idea.
Communication strategy: Students are encouraged to work in pairs to make sure of their answers to the question.

Step one Lead-in
Introduce the topic by asking students questions “It’s a fine day for traveling. Do you like traveling? When you travel , what scenery do you like best?” And then show pictures of some place the teacher have ever been to. And make some comments on each scenery.
Step two Fast-reading
Ask students to read the passage as quickly as possible and make out what is talked about in each paragraph and fill in the blanks.

Show students reading skill: Pay attention to the first one or two sentences of each paragraph and catch the key words.
Let students divide the whole passage into three parts and fill in the blanks with one key word to know the meaning of each part.

Ask students questions “When you visit someplace, what’s your feeling about the scenery?” “What’s Simon’s feeling about Yunnan’s landscape?””Why is he astonished?””How varied is the landscape ?” And learn with students through maps , pictures and descriptions in Para.1.
