Overall designing guidance
Up to now, students have finished studying book1-book7 but are still confused about how to memorize vocabulary efficiently and accurately. With an increasing number of vocabulary in College Entrance Examination, teachers and students are facing a tough problem about how to enlarge related vocabulary. Based on this situation, I have spent large amounts of time summarizing some practical vocabulary memorizing strategies and studying The New Revised Curriculum Standards(2017)Chen yuanbao version. Afterwards, I have selected 40 typical vocabulary and created various activities, including text reading, tips summarizing, information match, mind mapping, team competition etc. With the assistance of Seewo White Board 5, I will guide students to master the given vocabulary within the required time by using different strategies and to improve students’ ability in different aspects of Core Competence of English Subject.
Teaching objectives
Linguistic competence
Students will improve the following abilities based on what has been learnt:
Students’ capacity of generalization will be developed by summarizing five vocabulary memorizing strategies after reading a text.
Students’ analytical and identifying ability will be improved by identifying common prefixes or suffixes, compound words and opposites.
Students’ application ability will be strengthened by applying the strategies to specific exercises.
Cultural awareness
Promote students’ acceptance of English language and its culture by finishing different tasks including word formation .
Show love for our own culture by translating the sentence with “content” into Chinese.
Thinking quality
Cultivate students’ logical, critical and creative thinking quality by finishing related exercises about information match, association, mind mapping and team competition .
Learning capacity
Students’ self-learning, cooperative learning and competitive awareness will be improved by summarizing 5 strategies,finishing mind mapping, finishing“Super Brain”competition.
Students’ active inquiry ability will be improved and be willing to explore other vocabulary memorizing strategies by imagining other vocabulary in line with the first two tips.
Students will form related learning strategies by finishing the self-reflection evaluation form.
Teaching important points
Guide students to summarize and generalize the five vocabulary memorizing strategies.
Help students apply these five strategies to memorizing the selected 40 typical vocabulary based on different activities.
