3) Students should know what aspects should be focused on while describing Antarctica

2. Skill objectives:

1) Students should enhance their ability in reading for the main idea and detailed information.

2) Students should improve their ability in analyzing difficult sentences to get correct

information.

3) Students should develop their ability in expressing themselves with the expressions grasped-introducing Arctic by themselves.

3. Affective objectives:

1)Students can realize the value of Antarctica and determined to contribute to protecting Antarctica in daily life.

2)Students will also realize the importance of learning by themselves and working in groups.

Analysis of the students

This lesson is intended for senior high students in Grade Two,most of whom have gotten used to a nearly all-English class and are fond of English. They are always trying to actively express themselves in English.But this passage is very long and contain many new words,so it is a bit difficult for students to understand it. Thus, I design a pre-class learning paper to guide them to get over the difficulties in vocabulary .Besides, their English levels are different. So group work is extremely necessary, which can reduce their learning burden and motivate each other’s thinking process.

Teaching focuses:

Students can talk about Antarctica and can introduce Arctic with what they have learned in the passage about Antarctica independently.

Teaching challenges:

To deal with such long passages within limited time and make sure all the students in different levels can get involved in it.

【Before class】Finish the Pre-class learning paper

1)Students should finish the pre-class learning paper ,check and correct the answers by themselves before class.

2)Students will be informed that they will have a competition about words and phrases( named Rush to answer) next class, which is based on the pre-class learning paper.

Purpose:

to motivate students to get over the difficulties in vocabulary actively.

【活动1】Rush to answer-feedback on the pre-class learning paper.

Give some pictures for them to guess the words and phrases.e.g. the rivalry between China and America.

1)to help students get a vivid understanding about the new words.

2)为活动6埋下伏笔.
