Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
Now, I will show you a map. I want to travel. Do you like travelling? Where do you want to go? Ok, do you want to go with me? Please put up your hands. I will give you some guidance and guess where I will go.
But we have no experience. So let’s ask Ernest Shackleton to lead us to travel.
Step 2 Fast-reading
Read the passage in two minutes and explain the meaning of the title. That is to say, you should get the main idea of the passage. Then I will ask some of you to speak out your answer.
Step 3 Pair-work
Choose question words from the box. Write two comprehension questions to ask another student.
Then ask one student to ask another. Another who can answer his question correctly can go on to ask other students his question.
Step 4 Group-work
Read the passage again. Decide which statements you agree with by working together in groups.
