Step 1. Lead-in and Review
T: There are two important points in the title—one is “the Mona Lisa”, the other is “puzzle”. Let’s check them one by one. What is the Mona Lisa?
Ss: It is a painting.
T: Since we have already learned the words and expressions about describing a painting, now look at the PPT and try to describe the Mona Lisa by using the following words.
Show the picture of the Mona Lisa and ask the students to describe the painting by using the following words: portrait, mysterious, astonishing, the effect of the light and shade, masterpiece, Leonardo da Vinci
Step 2. Pre-reading
Check the students’ preview work about the words in the text.
Ask some of the students to read the words in the learning paper and have the other students repeat after them. Make sure they know what they all mean.
