Step 1 Introduction by looking at the pictures in the PPT.
In this class, I’ll show you around Shiqiao ancient town. By visiting the town, we’ll review the usages of non-finite verb. Welcome to Shiqiao ancient town, especially the street. Look at the picture, how to translate “中国红色第一街” in Chinese? The first revolution street of China. So welcome to visit the first revolution of China. The first revolution street of China is Lenin Street. But how does the street’s name come from? The street 's name, Lenin Street , is probably from the two big Chinese characters ---Lenin, carved on the stone memorial archway (牌坊). Pay attention to the red word “carved”. The past participle phrase is used to be attributive.
Now look at the next picture, on the square, there are many people playing, dancing or chatting. Here the three present participle forms are used to attributive, modifying the word people.
It's easy for us to see Lenin's statue standing on the square of Lenin Park. The present participle phrase is used to modify the word “statue”.
The people in Shiqiao are very anxious for approaching a river, even calling the used-to-be smelly pool as“Tiaoshuihe (River)”. Now, the pool is called “Lenin Lake” where there are usually some people chatting when they are free.
Step 2 practise according to the logic subject.
Now look at the picture and fill in the blanks with the proper form of the verbs in the brackets,
1. _____ (see) from the distance, the stone memorial archway looks imposing(壮观的,印象深刻的).
2. ______ (see) from the distance, we find the stone memorial archways looking imposing.
The key way to work out the two exercises is to find out the logic subject. In the first sentence, from the words “see” and “the stone memorial archway”, we can easily say “see the stone memorial archway”, so they are the relation between verb and object. It’s easy for us to use “seen” to fill in the first blank. Using the same way, we can easily find “we see”, so it is the relation between subject and verb. “Seeing” is the answer.
Now, look at the two pictures, and pay attention to the red words. A wide road, being built right now, will greatly improve the transport of Shiqiao Town. Being built, the v-ing passive voice form is used attributive to modify “a wide road”. However, in the second sentence, “being built” and “is” combined together work as predicate verb.
Step 3 Look at the pictures and words, and try to understand the usages of non-finite verbs.
Learn about some cultures connecting with the Fire Dragon Dance. On the nights of 11th to15th in Lunar January , in order not to be burnt, these men performing Fire Dragon Dance aren't wearing a coat , walking from street to street, hoping to have a good harvest next year. Watching Fire Dragon Dance is a happy moment, especially for the kids following the dragon and setting off the fireworks. Pay attention to the red words and try to understand their usages.
Step 4 Find out Subject, verb ,and non-finite verbs.
Read the passage and find out Subject, verb ,and non finite verb. It is very good for us to understand the differences between “predicate” and “non finite verb”.
And then give a small summary. 谓语动词通常紧随主语之后,有时态、语态和数的变化;非谓语动词是除不作谓语之外的其它所有成分,如:主宾表、定状补。形式为 done ,doing,to do。
Step 5 By doing exercises of entrance examination, we can review the usages of non-finite verbs easily. You try your best to remember these examination points.
