1).Students will enhance their ability in reading for the main idea and detailed information.

2).The students will develop their ability in expressing themselves with the expressions grasped.

3. Affective objectives:

Students will take an interest in the differences between Chinese food and western food, and show respect for different food cultures.

Analysis of students’ learning:

My students are in Grade Two. They speak fluent English. They have a large vocabulary. However, as the final examination is approaching, they attach more attention to reading materials in exercises instead of those in their textbooks.

Teaching focuses:

1. To let students know about the different food cultures of Chinese food and western food

2. To improve students’ reading ability

Teaching challenges:

1. To encourage students to actively express themselves in English

2. To deal with such long passages within limited time

Teaching aids:

Teaching Procedure:

Step1 Leading-in

Play a short video related to the characteristics of Chinese food. And show some pictures about western food.

Purpose: to arouse students’ interest and introduce the topic.

Step2 Reading

Pre-reading

1. Ask students the following questions:

1). According to the video, what are the key words of Chinese food?

Keys: flavor, taste and color

2). As a consequence, what adjectives can be used to describe Chinese food?

Keys: tasty, colorful, delicious, fabulous, appetizing, etc.
