Students in Grade Two have a certain knowledge of English. And they have the interest in talking about food. So this lesson can be of great interest to them.
Knowledge aim: Students can master and use some words and phrases properly.
Ability aims: 1. Students get the main idea of the passage by using different kinds of reading skills.
2. Students` reading skills can be improved, especially the ability of skimming and scanning.
Moral aim: By learning and discussing, students get to know the differences between Chinese food and foreign food. Meanwhile, students are encouraged to have a balanced diet.

How to help students to improve their ability of skimming and scanning and how to develop their ability of information gathering, analyzing, comparing, and making conclusions.

Passage1
Step 1: Lead in
T: Ask students a question: Can you name some Chinese food and some foreign food?
S: Brain storm to come up with names of food as many as possible and then enjoy some pictures about food.
Purpose: To arouse students’ interest in the topic---foreign food
Step 2: Fast reading. (Skimming)
Lead students to read the passage quickly to answer the following question
What will an American notice when eating Chinese food in China?
Step 3: Careful reading. (Scanning)
1. Read Passage One again and put the feelings in order.
surprise/ feel like/ horror/ get used to/ eat greedily
2. What’s the tone of the passage?
A. Serious. B. Humorous.
