Teaching procedures:
Step1. Leading-in
Let students find the main clauses and the subordinate clauses in the following sentences. Then Ask students to guess what kind of clause they are.
1).The rules aren't obvious for the foreign visitor who has been invited to a party.
2). Salad is made from vegetables which are only washed before serving.
3). There's something that I want.
4). The menu included asparagus, which his guest had never eaten before.
Purpose: After analyzing the sentences in the text, students have a preliminary understanding of the attributive clause .
Step2.The definition and structure of the attributive clause
Let students translate the sentence into Chinese.
The rules aren't obvious for the foreign visitor who has been invited to a party.
According to the translation , define the attributive clause.
定语从句: 用来修饰名词或代词的句子.
Then, let students find the attributive clauses and answer the questions.
1. Salad is made from vegetables which are only washed before serving.
2. The menu included asparagus, which his guest had never eaten before.
Which clause adds essential information about the subject?
Which clause adds extra information about the subject?
Ask students to find the differences between the two attributive clauses and summarize the two kinds of the attributive clauses.
定语从句:限制性定语从句;非限制性定语从句
In terms of the analysis of the sentence“The rules aren't obvious for the foreign visitor who has been invited to a party.”,the teacher explains what the antecedent and the relative words are.
